Did You Know?

An ultrasound is the most accurate way to confirm if a pregnancy is developing. About 1 in 4 pregnancies do not continue, and some miscarriages are only found during an ultrasound. If a miscarriage is identified, follow-up medical care is needed.

  • Because of the high demand for no-cost ultrasounds in Salt Lake City and American Fork, Charis Pregnancy Clinic asks clients to confirm their pregnancy with a positive test first. We provide free lab-quality tests, and in many cases, an ultrasound can be scheduled the same day.

    Please note that ultrasounds are not offered to everyone; eligibility is determined by a nurse during your appointment.

  • If you’re considering abortion, the first step is a pre-abortion assessment, which may include an ultrasound.

    An ultrasound can show:

    • If your pregnancy is developing. This helps determine which abortion methods you may qualify for, since options and risks depend on your health history and how far along you are.

    • If your pregnancy is viable. The only way to know for sure if a pregnancy is progressing is with ultrasound. About 1 in 4 pregnancies do not continue, and sometimes miscarriage is only discovered during an ultrasound. If that happens, you’ll need follow-up care from a doctor.

  • Limited Ultrasounds at Charis Pregnancy Clinic Can:

    • Detect cardiac activity (heartbeat)

    • Estimate how far along you are and your approximate due date

    • Confirm the number of fetuses

    • Recommend emergency medical care if an urgent issue is seen

    Limited Ultrasounds at Charis Pregnancy Clinic Do Not:

    • Reveal the sex of the baby

    • Diagnose fetal abnormalities

    • Replace prenatal care with your doctor

  • Charis Pregnancy Clinic provides no-cost ultrasounds to confirm if your pregnancy is viable and to check fetal development. As a community-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we do not profit from your ultrasound or your pregnancy decision. Because our services are free, nothing is billed to insurance or added to your account.

    All ultrasound information is confidential. You’ll have a safe, supportive space to talk through your options and ask questions.

    If you notice bleeding, spotting, or cramping, please seek medical help right away. These can be signs of miscarriage and may require follow-up care from a doctor.
